Stainless steel plates are flat materials made from stainless steel (iron-based alloy, with chromium content ≥10.5%) through processes such as hot rolling and cold rolling. Its core value stems from four major characteristics:
1. Corrosion resistance
- ** Passivation Film mechanism ** : Chromium reacts with oxygen to form a dense chromium oxide film (CrO), which isolates corrosive media (water, acid, salt, etc.).
- ** Alloy strengthening ** : Nickel (Ni) is added to enhance acid and alkali resistance, and molybdenum (Mo) to resist chloride ion corrosion (for example, 316L contains 2-3% molybdenum).
2. High strength and toughness
The tensile strength can reach 520-1200MPa (depending on the grade and process), and the hardness is significantly improved after cold rolling.
Austenitic stainless steel (such as 304) maintains toughness at a low temperature of -196ºC.
3. ** Heat resistance/Low temperature resistance **
Austenitic stainless steel (310S) can withstand a high temperature of 1150ºC, while ferritic stainless steel (430) has an oxidation resistance temperature up to 850ºC.
